About Me

Hello! I’m Dr. Carolyn Solo, PhD, LICSW, and I help individuals move through trauma and stuck patterns using focused, intensive EMDR therapy designed for deeper, more meaningful change. My mission is to blend advanced clinical expertise with genuine, lived experience to support you in moving through those stuck points and achieving true therapeutic transformation.

My Specialized Approach to Healing

My practice is built on two key areas of specialization, allowing for concentrated, impactful therapy:

Parents of Neurodivergent Children

As a mother of three daughters—my oldest has a PDA profile of AUDHD—I intimately understand the emotional weight and unique navigation required when parenting neurodivergent kids. I am passionate about helping other parents move past the overwhelm and challenges to find the joy, balance, and connection in their family life.

Complex Trauma and Dissociation

I specialize in working with survivors of sexual trauma, with clients who experience dissociation, and with those who identify as plural. My approach is grounded in safety, acceptance, and facilitating deep, lasting recovery from the effects of trauma.

Focused, Transformative Services

My primary service model is designed for maximum efficacy and accelerated healing:

Multi-Day EMDR Retreat Intensives

I specialize in intensive, focused EMDR retreat work offered in person in beautiful Stowe, Vermont. This format is ideal for deep, concentrated therapeutic processing for both my specialty client groups.

Virtual Therapy

I am also licensed to offer virtual therapy to clients located in Pennsylvania (PA).

Who I Work With

I work with individuals navigating trauma, dissociation, and complex emotional experiences who are ready for deeper, more focused healing.

Many of my clients have already done meaningful work in therapy but feel stuck, overwhelmed, or ready to move beyond weekly sessions into more immersive, structured support.

This work is especially helpful for those who are ready to move beyond insight into real, lasting change.

Professional Roots & Expertise

My clinical work is supported by a rigorous academic foundation:
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work: Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (2024). My doctoral research explored complex therapeutic relationships, with my dissertation titled: “Trying Your Best in That Moment with That Person”: Maintaining Feelings of Efficacy and Relevance in the Therapeutic Relationship with Community Mental Health Clients Experiencing Psychosis.
Master of Social Service (MSS): Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (2014).

A Few Things That Bring Me Joy

When I’m not in session or researching, I’m embracing joyful movement for movement’s sake—you can often find me outside hiking, running, skiing, or biking. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie who is actively anti-diet, believing in nourishment and pleasure over restriction.
And for my more home-bound self? I love a good binge-watch of classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the warm hug of The Great British Baking Show, and the low stakes, high drama of real estate reality shows. I’m also a lover of historical fiction, especially a book that takes place in ancient Greece or Rome, or in 19th century England.  If you ask, I’ll tell you about my love for cats and my passion for cooking (as long as someone else handles the cleanup!).
